you should make sure you do a complete scan of your pc to remeove any unwanted leftovers from those widgets....
a great FREE antivirus is AVG, search on Google... it should remove nearly everything...
a good rule of thumb for stuff like PR widgets: if they don't come from the original source then don't use them. The Google PR toolbar is safe but I haven't found a "widget" that google has worked with, so i don't use them.
you might be able to create one using adaptiveblue's Indigo add-on in Firefox. It allows you to create widget feeds to place on your site, but so far I haven't seen one for PR.
